|50 years have passed, but we have not forgotten...
Welcome to this website... created in October of 2008 and updated in 2018... and dedicated to
the officers and enlisted personnel who served with Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 462 in Phu
Bai, South Vietnam during the period of August 1968 - September 1969. The content is based
substantially upon the tour book that was produced while we were in country. I believe Lt. Ed
Hinkle was in charge of that project and to him and his staff of assistants I will be ever grateful for
capturing the essence of our tour so memorably.
A major portion of this website is devoted to the memoirs of squadron mate Lt. Roy
Stauth. They were written from memory years after our tour took place, but with such
detail, insight, humor and emotion, that you will feel as though you are actually
reliving the entire experience from beginning to end.
I just got back from attending our 50-year reunion held September 27-28-29 2018 at
the Four Points Hotel in San Diego. It was a wonderful gathering of former squadron
members and spouses. Photos can be viewed by clicking on the blue link at the top of
In 2009, we held a 40-year reunion in Pensacola that was attended by 65 squadron
members, spouses and guests. Photos of that special event can be viewed by clicking on
the red link at the top of this page.
I hope you enjoy browsing through this on-line tour book. If you have any comments
or suggestions for improvement of the site, please send an e-mail by clicking on this
